The THIRDREALITY Smart Plug Gen3 is a Zigbee plug with power monitoring that lets your Zigbee hub switch a lamp or appliance and track what it uses. It costs about $15 for one plug or $45 for a 4-pack.
Will it work with your hub?
- Echo: only Echo models with a built-in Zigbee hub, such as the Echo (4th gen), Echo Hub, Echo Show 10 (3rd gen) and Echo Plus (2nd gen).
- Home Assistant, SmartThings, Hubitat and Homey are all supported. THIRDREALITY says SmartThings and Home Assistant show its energy statistics.
- Home Assistant tip: it works with both ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT, and both unlock a metering-only mode that keeps power on for things that should never be switched off, like a fridge.
What’s new in Gen3
Launched in March 2026, Gen3 brings back Gen1’s toggle option and adds alerts when power rises or drops past a level you set. That’s handy for spotting a freezer that stops cycling or a dehumidifier that quits. Skip space heaters; most heater manuals say to plug straight into a wall outlet.
