This page explains how picks get made on Dads Home Tech — what a product has to clear before it shows up in a review, and what never factors into the decision.
How we choose what to review
We look for products that are genuinely available — real listings, real stock, not a specialty item nobody can actually buy — and that have a track record of real owner reviews rather than a handful of suspiciously perfect ones. We also look for the current generation of a product line rather than something already being phased out. Within each category we deliberately cover more than one brand and more than one price point: usually a flagship pick, a budget pick, and a pick that solves a specific problem the other two don’t.
How reviews are researched
Reviews on this site are built from published spec sheets, manufacturer manuals, and a wide read of other owners’ real-world experience — not from buying and hands-on testing every product ourselves. We say this plainly in every review rather than implying otherwise. When we can find a genuine, verified hands-on video review of the exact model — not a different generation, not a different amperage or wattage — we link to it. If we can’t find one we’re confident actually matches, we leave that section out rather than link to something that doesn’t.
What never affects a pick
A higher commission rate never moves a product up in our rankings, and no brand pays for placement or a favorable writeup — see our Affiliate Disclosure for exactly how the commission side works. If a product isn’t worth the money, the review says so, commission or not.
Keeping things current
Prices, specs, and availability change. When a review falls out of date — a price moves, a model gets discontinued, a rebate program ends — we update it rather than leave stale information live. If an entire category stops making sense, we’d rather rebuild it with genuinely fitting products than leave a mismatched review up for the sake of not touching it.
