Key Takeaways

  • Best for: budget Matter setups that still want energy tracking
  • Standout: about $9 a plug in the 4-pack, with Smart Charge Guard
  • Watch out: side button and 2.4GHz-only Wi-Fi
  • Not for: anyone who wants energy data inside Apple Home or Google Home

The Tapo P110M is TP-Link’s low-cost Matter smart plug with energy monitoring, so you can schedule a lamp or fan and see what any plugged-in device costs to run. A 2-pack sells for about $24 and a 4-pack for about $32 to $36.

What it’s good for

  • Chargers: put a phone, e-bike or tool charger on it and let Smart Charge Guard cut power once the draw stays low, so nothing sits on the charger all night.
  • Finding standby power hogs: a device idling at 10W around the clock uses about 88kWh a year, roughly $15 at 17 cents per kWh (estimate).
  • Setting Power Protection: pick a limit a little above the device’s normal draw. Matter Alpha found the shutoff isn’t instant, so treat it as a backstop, not a safety device.
  • What to skip: space heaters. Most heater manuals say to plug straight into a wall outlet.

Where your energy data shows up

The Tapo app shows everything. A 2025 firmware update also sends energy readings over Matter, and Matter Alpha found SmartThings and Home Assistant can display them. Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home still show on/off only.

Verdict

The best value in this lineup: Matter control, energy tracking and useful extras for about $7.50 to $9 a plug. If you already run Kasa gear, stick with the Kasa KP125M, and if you want to skip Wi-Fi, look at the Eve Energy or a Zigbee plug.

Common Questions

Can it make the house look occupied?
Yes. Away mode switches the plug on and off at random times while you're gone, which works well with a lamp.
Can I set a countdown timer?
Yes. The Tapo app has countdown timers, schedules and an auto-off setting.
Can I use it outdoors?
No. It's an indoor plug. Use an outdoor-rated smart plug for porch or yard lights.
