Can your home handle it?
- 48A: only when hardwired, on its own 240V, 60A circuit installed by a licensed electrician.
- Plug-in: on a NEMA 14-50 outlet it’s limited to 40A, which needs a 50A circuit.
- Smaller breaker: set the limit in the app to 80% of the breaker rating, for example 24A on a 30A circuit.
- Full panel: the Vue monitor or the Emporia Pro can slow charging when the house is drawing a lot, which may avoid a panel upgrade.
How fast it charges
At 48A (11.5kW), expect roughly 35 to 40 miles of range per hour; at 40A, about 30 to 35. Estimates assume about 3.3 miles per kWh; many EVs cap home charging at 7.7kW to 11kW, so your car’s onboard charger may be the real limit.
